Hammerstone is the ADF’s contracted prime supplier for DEF(AUST) 1000C compliant Unique Identification (UID) labels, marks and Automatic Identification Technology (AIT) products and services. Our portfolio spans UID labels, RuBee (IEEE 1902.1), RFID and low-emission Bluetooth — automating data capture, enabling real-time asset visibility and reducing stocktake burden across Defence fleets, stores and supply chains. UID and AIT are the identity layer that makes in-transit visibility, condition monitoring and Sense and Respond Logistics possible.
You cannot track, maintain or account for assets you cannot reliably identify. In complex defence and industrial environments — where assets move through supply chains, cross organisational boundaries and operate in contested or containerised conditions — a durable, standardised identity layer is the prerequisite for every downstream data capability.
Without accurate asset identity:
UID and AIT solve this at the source. Unique Identification assigns a persistent, standardised identifier to every asset. Automatic Identification Technology makes that identifier machine-readable — automatically, at speed, across the full range of environments where Defence operates.
Hammerstone is the ADF’s contracted provider for DEF(AUST) 1000C compliant Unique Identification (UID) labels, marks and AIT products and services.
The capability is used by:
Every asset has a persistent, standardised identifier that follows it through its lifecycle — from manufacture through deployment to disposal.
Eliminate manual stocktake and data entry. AIT systems read asset identity automatically, at range, through containers and in metallic environments.
Identity data feeds in-transit visibility, condition monitoring and logistics platforms — turning anonymous movement into actionable logistics intelligence.
DEF(AUST) 1000C Part 12 and DEFLOGMAN compliant labelling, applied by Australia's prime UID/AIT supplier to the ADF.
Prime contractor to the ADF since Jul 2021. Previously supported the codification and UID marking of over 200,000 assets across 1 BDE, 3 BDE, 7 BDE, 17 BDE and JLU nationally.
Standard RFID is blocked by metal containers and unsafe near explosives and fuel. RuBee’s magnetic near-field technology works where RFID cannot — making it the technology of choice for ammunition, ordnance, fuel systems and metallic intermodal logistics platforms.
IEEE 1902.1 — internationally standardised magnetic near-field communication
Cost-effective wireless asset tracking solutions that seamlessly integrate into existing supply chain and logistics systems in industrial and commercial applications.
Supply chain and logistics environments where cost-efficiency and compatibility with existing ERP and WMS systems are the priority — garrison, depot, warehouse and base-level logistics.
Hammerstone and Camcode have a long partnership, as the distributor for all of their UID labels.
UID and AIT are not just compliance products. They are the first step in a data chain that makes Sense and Respond Logistics possible. Without reliable asset identity, no downstream system — whether an in-transit visibility platform, a condition-based maintenance system or a Common Operating Picture — can operate on accurate data.
Hammerstone’s UID/AIT capability feeds directly into:
Hammerstone is the Department of Defence’s prime contracted supplier for UID labels, marks and AIT under Deed of Standing Offer SON3786366 — nation-wide supply, active Jul 2021 to Jun 2026.
Over 200,000 assets marked across the Australian Army – 1BDE, 3BDE, 7 BDE, 17 BDE and JLU nationally – as part of the AHQ Codification and UID Program (2017-2020).
Hammerstone has supported Army’s policy updates in relation to DE (AUST)1000C for packaging and lanelling – not just a supplier, but a subject matter expert embedded in the standards process.
RuBee AIT is at the core of D-JMILS Phase 4 – including intrinsically safe asset tags deployed on intermodal platforms carrying explosives and fuel stores.
Unique Identification (UID) is the standardised marking system used by the Australian Defence Force to identify and track assets throughout their lifecycle. DEF(AUST) 1000C Part 12 and the Defence Logistics Manual (DEFLOGMAN) require all serialised items that are mission-essential, safety-critical, ITAR-regulated, sensitive, accountable or controlled stock to carry UID labels. Hammerstone is the ADF’s contracted prime supplier for UID labels and marks under a national standing offer deed.
UID is the identifier — a unique, persistent serial number applied to an asset. AIT (Automatic Identification Technology) is the reading technology that captures that identifier automatically, without manual scanning. Hammerstone’s AIT portfolio includes RuBee (IEEE 1902.1), RFID and low-emission Bluetooth — each suited to different environments. Together, UID and AIT enable machine-readable asset identity at scale across supply chains, maintenance systems and operational environments.
RuBee (IEEE 1902.1) is a wireless magnetic near-field communication protocol designed for environments where standard RFID fails. It works reliably in metallic containers and confined spaces — and crucially, it is intrinsically safe for use on ordnance and near fuel, where standard radio-frequency technologies are prohibited. Hammerstone uses RuBee as the identification technology in D-JMILS, the ADF’s intermodal logistics visibility system, where assets including explosives and fuel stores require reliable, safe identification.
DEF(AUST)1000C is the Australian Defence standard for identification, marking and packaging. Part 12 mandates UID labelling for all serialised defence items that are mission-essential, safety-critical, ITAR-regulated, sensitive, accountable or controlled stock. The Defence Logistics Manual (DEFLOGMAN) reinforces this requirement. Hammerstone, as the ADF’s prime standing offer supplier, provides compliant UID labels and marks and advisory services to ensure organisations meet these requirements.
UID and AIT are the identity layer that ReadyFleet™ and D-JMILS are built on. D-JMILS uses RuBee AIT to read asset identity on intermodal logistics platforms in transit, building in-transit visibility across the supply chain. ReadyFleet™ ingests that identity data — and data from other sources — to deliver a unified Logistics Common Operating Picture. Without reliable asset identity from UID/AIT, neither system can operate accurately.
