ReadyFleet™ and D-JMILS: In-Transit Visibility and Data Fusion for Defence Logistics

Getting a trusted logistics picture usually depends on reports passed up the chain, one person at a time. This short video introduces the two Hammerstone systems built to change that: D-JMILS, which tracks assets and stores in transit, and ReadyFleet™, which fuses that data with vehicle health, enterprise and battle management systems.
Matt Hanlon, General Manager at Hammerstone, speaking in the ReadyFleet™ and D-JMILS video

In this video

  • What D-JMILS is: an in-transit visibility system that combines automatic identification technology with cargo-carrying platforms such as flat racks and shipping containers
  • How assets and stores can be counted and condition-monitored remotely, both in transit and in storage
  • What ReadyFleet™ brings together: in-transit visibility data, health and usage monitoring from vehicles, plant, machinery and Navy ships, and personnel tracking
  • Why automating data capture at the lowest level means information can be trusted from the tactical level to the strategic
  • How ReadyFleet™ integrates with SAP ERP and Battle Management Systems, and operates over commercial bearers and tactical radio networks

The Digitalised Joint Modular Intermodal Logistics System is an in-transit visibility system that involves the integration of automatic identification technology, such as RuBee magnetic or LoRa, with cargo-carrying platforms such as flat racks and shipping containers, to provide visibility across the supply chain and to be able to remotely count and monitor the condition of assets and stores during transit or in storage locations.

ReadyFleet™ is a data fusion and analytics system that ingests data from a range of sensor networks and external systems, including in-transit visibility systems, health and usage monitoring systems from vehicles, plant, machinery, even Navy ships, and provides support to personnel tracking systems. It has been integrated with SAP ERP software and battle management systems, including SitaWare and TAC.

ReadyFleet™’s a really unique capability that has been developed by the Hammerstone team. It allows us to fuse all of the data that before an ops officer would have to try and pull together, and rely on the feedback from each of the company 2ICs, who are equally relying on the feedback from their sergeants and lance corporals. What we’re trying to do is automate, from the very lowest level, the process of data generation, so that we can trust that information from the tactical to the strategic, because people have been taken out of the process of generating that data.

We’ve delivered a minimum viable product for an in-transit visibility system and the basis for a recognised logistics picture [as at the date this video was first published in July 2025]. It’s been integrated with SAP and battle management systems, and operates over commercial bearers and tactical radio networks.

Defence had identified a long-standing need for an in-transit visibility capability and improved logistics situational awareness. So we built D-JMILS and ReadyFleet™ to meet these needs, and it works.
